I was 8 years old when I last saw my family, my friends or any form of happiness…it was a normal day coming back from school with my 5-year-old sister. In 5 minutes my life was changed forever, I don’t think I can ever forgive myself. It all started when I was coming back from school on the road I promised my mom I would never cross through. My innocent sister with a full life ahead of her was punished because of my reckless actions. We were almost home, the sun was slowly disappearing from the sky when a large jeep with despairing children and 5 grown men with guns. I faintly whispered to my sister to sprint as fast as she could and never turn back. As she was leaving I stood their head up ready to face the consequence of my disobedience and pray that god would have mercy on me. My heart stopped when I heard Hazel crying my name while getting beaten by the frightening older men. That was the last thing I remember of my sister and the outside world before I woke up in the LRA camp with hundreds of other boys as young as me with fear crawling through their bodies. My body hurts everywhere especially my stomach and my heart. I don’t think I have eaten anything in 5 days and the only way of resolving my starvation is to join the LRA. My brain explodes with thoughts…should I join or should I starve myself to death. In the midst of my thoughts a young girl named Hannah with chopped out ears, hands and no hair approached me with her head down and slipped me a cramped note very cryptically and scurried off back into her lonely tent. The note had directions, directions to hope I would leave at night when it’s as dawn as a raven’s wing. I do not this young girl Hannah, however she saved my life and now it is time for me to return the favor. My body jerked every moment I walked with excitement however there was a part of me that is nervous. I tiptoed soundlessly and grabbed Hannah as we set off to save our lives. We were incredible close to survival land escaping before BOOM! Hannah was shot in the head and dropped to the floor breathlessly. I sprinted until I felt a pound of pain excruciating through my leg but I kept on going till they gave up. I won. I have never felt such an outstanding feeling. I lay there until sunrise feeling happiness and peace. The Invisible Children has created a video of Kony 2012 that today has gone viral over the Internet and has over 33 million hits. This 29 minute video address a large issue in Uganda, child soldiers. Kony has been missing and possibly dead for 6 years when the IC organization has been claiming to be working in Uganda. The IC organization has their hearts in the right place however there advertising and financial efforts are not helping these children. The IC organization was completely oblivious and idiotic when they attempted to advertise shirts and other products spending 2/3 of their funds instead focusing on the real issue. There intentions when selling these products were not even considering the addressed issue. Only 1/3 of the donations towards the IC are being out to the real cause. Does wearing a “Kony 2012” shirt really going to help anyone? The public trust the IC when donating their money however the IC organization main profits are going towards creating useless products who do not benefit anyone but themselves.
Dear Journal,
It was a day like any other with shooting, screaming and beating and another abduction except something was different. This abduction was important, I overheard the commander talking about trading the children they abduct for weapons. I pray for these children and hope they wont all get shot down like the last bunch of young boys. They arrived late in the afternoon with the same sorrowful faces and drowning tears. They were all so young and innocent and had no idea what was coming their way. I ran inside my tent knowing that if I were seen I would be beaten again. The LRA cut off my ears and I want to leave as soon as possible. Can one of these boys be the one to help me escape? Its been ten years please god help me. Question: Collingwood school should bad civvies day
Thesis: Collingwood School should continue to allow civvies day because it encourages students to express their personalities through fashion, it makes students less inclined to disobey the school uniform policies and the proceeds successfully fundraises for charities. Body 1: Firstly, having a civvies day allows each individual to express themselves through their choice of clothing. It is really important for students to remember who they are and to express it to their peers. Gulf Spills Effects Still Unknown
The article above states a enormous issue that will not be solved for more than a decade. This article describes the oil spill within the Gulf of Mexico that today has no solution and is constantly posing more of a threat endangering the aniamls who live within the deep waters. Scientists predict there wqill not be a cure fopr a decade and that in the mean time the oil withing the waters will constantly spread and slowy contaminate other parts of water across the world. Wildlife are the ones who are forced to suffer through this dreaded wait as they are slowyy getting more and more sick and there food slowly disperses. People who are forced to drink out of the crude water are also at a huge risk of many ilnessess. The very water that travels along the Gulf can be mixed into anything humans consume to make them sick with a variety of sicknesses. Solutions such as doing a weekly clean up of local shorelines can slowly decrease the pollution within the water. Other examples of solutions to clean our water are to properly dispose of waste and reduce the usage of harmful material. Chemicals within the water are spreading rapidly, which means humans need to do their part just as quick. It was a week ago that I embarked on my journey to the Red Box, which was a major mystery for me. As I walked along the dreaded red box 30 feet high the furious water crashed along the rocks waiting for me to jump in. I was frightened as my friends encouraged me to jump into the cold ice water. My nerves and fear of height took over which brought to have no further interest to go forth with this journey. One by one my friends effortlessly jumped into the navy water and were constantly laughing and enjoying themselves. I stood there shocked at the confidence within my friends and surprised at the reactions as they touched the surface of the water. Suddenly I placed my foot over the edge of the red box staring down at the rushing water. My body tilted forward positioned in the stance to jump when suddenly a force pushes my back flinging me in the air then crashing into the water. The water felt like pins and needles hitting my body, however, at the same moment I felt a rush of adrenaline rushing through me. I felt enjoyment as I turned around to see the friend who pushed me, laughing extremely loud. For the remaining time we stayed at the Red Box it was the best time I had ever had.
The intense stories of war, Sniper and the story of Pat Tillman discuss the lives and devastation of soldier’s lives. These stories show how soldiers suffer and dedicate their lives to saving their patriotic country. The song “We Are The World 25 for Haiti” is a powerful connection to the stories of war because it describes how the people of the world should connect as one because we are all human beings that live together. Stories of war shows devotion however they also show how humans have ignored the fact there are bigger problems in the world that should be focused on together as a group.
Phoebe Prince and Margo are both young girls who are tormented day after day. Their lives are connected through the bullying they are both forced through. Locked in a closet, abused and exiled by their classmates Margo and Phoebe suffered through extreme bullying which brought them to depression and pain. Margo was a young girl who transferred away from her home planet to find a rainy planet where the students do not welcome her. Phoebe Prince was a teenage girl who was harassed because she dated a “popular” student. Their was no one to support her as she was tormented, she was depressed constantly to get to the stage where she took her own life. All summer and a day and the novel Does my head look big in this are two fiction stories where young students are discriminated because of their beliefs and appearance. These young girls suffer through people constantly discouraging and teasing them. Amal is the protagonist character from the book Does my head look big in this. Amal is a teenage girl willing to follow her religion and wear the religious hijab, however along the way her life is turned around when she is teased and made s an outcast. Margo is also tortured because of her beliefs. The discrimination process throughout theses novels are terrible because they are based on beliefs and appearance. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45354766/ns/today-parenting_and_family/t/mom-bullying-drove-my--year-old-girl-suicide/#.UFyzmWNWrVs 10 years old and driven to take her own life. 9 years old and locked in a closet. Ashlynn Conner a 10-year-old girl committed suicide because of the unbearable bullying she was tortured through. Margo was locked in a closet because her peers disbelieved in her thoughts and her appearance. Both of these girls had serious problems through school and their socials lives, even in grade 5. Ashley Conner was yet another normal young girl, however she was teased in only grade five and called terrible names that she bawled over for many hours and even asked her mother what they are supposed to mean. This young girl was loved by her family and her friends and was too young to acknowledge the action of suicide. Margo's situation was fairly similar however not as intense, Margo was bullied because of her beliefs and backgrounds and was not accepted in her school. Her peers restricted her from her dreams and happiness and locked her in a closet to be hidden. In a modern day society teenagers, mostly girls discriminate against people with their appearance and attitude. With teenage girls especially your appearance is constantly undergoing harsh judgement, using the fact if you are overweight, underweight, the clothes one wishes to wear, makeup and skin colour. Teenage girls judge your appearance however just as much these girls judge your beliefs, attitude and actions. If an individual acts or behaves differently girls use those actions against them and immediately they judge any girl. A personal experience I have been through in my life which supports my theories would be when I once was at a gathering in which I did not recognize anyone, however I overheard a couple of people whispering about me and how they thought I was weird because of my skin tone and how I was different. I felt alone, scared and very disheartened. From a personal experience it was terrible and I hope that other girls will realize that everyone is the same and is unique and beautiful. |
